Unlike many of my compatriots, I haven’t traveled the world.
I am, however, a worshiper of the written word.
I am a compulsive reader. In a restaurant I read, rather than order from, the desert menu because of the delightful descriptions.
I prefer to read better-written prose, primarily fiction – and I read a lot of it.
My goal as part of the Northumberland Scribes is to transform my love of reading into a love of writing.
I don’t have a lot of experience. I won a creative writing award in high school, and I wrote movie reviews and the occasional piece for the local newspaper over 20 years ago. I’ve participated in a few writing courses.
I’m at a period in my life — children grown, two lovely granddaughters — when I have some time to write – and this gathering of like-minded people will inspire me to do it.
